Wellcome Trust Wellcome Trust Four-year PhD studentships in science

These enable students to undertake in-depth postgraduate training at centres of excellence throughout the UK in selected biomedical research and public health research areas. Studentships include a stipend worth between £19,919 and £23,997 per year over four years for those outside London and between £22,278 and £26,839 per year over four years for those based in London. Also includes PhD registration fees and college fees, and will make contributions towards laboratory rotation expenses in the first year, research expenses for years two to four, transferable skills training, and travel costs.

British Council, Departments of Science and Technology (DST) and Biotechnology (DBT) Newton Bhabha PhD Placement Programme

Funding support for short-term placements in United Kingdom (UK) and Indian institutions. Provides visa fee, economy class international airfares (from and to country of residence), overseas medical insurance incurred by applicants, in-country costs including accommodation (as per details provided in call guidelines), a stipend paid monthly, and bench fees (if applied for) by UK host University. 

Newton Fund PhD Placements and Supervisor Mobility Grants China-UK

This programme is a sponsorship opportunity for UK and Chinese PhD students and their supervisors to spend a period of study of three to 12 months (for PhD students) and up to three months (for supervisors) at higher education institutions in China or the UK. 

Relevant costs incurred by UK PhD students will be covered by the UK Newton Fund, including visa fees, international airfares (economy class), tuition fees, accommodation and stipend up to set ceilings depending on location. Costs beyond the above arrangements will be borne by the students themselves.

BSAC Postgraduate Studentships

BSAC studentships are designed to support a PhD Student for up to 4 years in duration.
Successful applicants will be paid a maximum of £25,000 per year (covering fees for up to 4 years in duration). Non EU applicants will need to ensure their host institution is able to support any additional costs outside of this £25,000 annual award (in other words any additional funds required outside of the value of this grant will need to be sought elsewhere).
Applications may include: Student stipend, Tuition fees (set by the research institution) and Research consumables directly attributable to the project.

Applications for PhD Studentships are usually invited every other year, subject to review

Wellcome Trust Biomedical Vacation Scholarships For undergraduates. Stipend of £250 a week for 6-8 weeks for personal support. No research expenses 
Biochemical Society Summer Vacation Studentships For undergraduates.  Stipend of £200 per week for 6 – 8 weeks, and up to £1,600 in total. For personal costs. 
Microbiology Society Harry Smith Vacation Studentships For undergraduates. Provide support at a rate of £185 per week for a period of up to eight weeks (minimum six weeks). An additional sum of up to £400 for specific research costs may also awarded.
