Open to PIs holding BBSRC grants. Funding of up to £3k per award is available to help scientists add an international dimension to their BBSRC funded research by making and establishing new contacts with international counterparts in topics relevant to current BBSRC strategic priorities.

Travel-Overseas Lecture Tour - India

For a 1-2 week lecture tour of India with the potential inclusion of laboratory visits.  Covers the costs of UK- India travel and internal transfers, accommodation and subsistence. The award may not be used to cover research costs or equipment. up to a maximum of £5000.

Federation of European Microbiological Societies Research and Training Grants

ECR Lab visit or training course costs

Support is limited to a maximum of €4,000. May be used to contribute to travel, accommodation and subsistence costs of making the visit.

1 January for projects that will start within a year from the following 1 March.
1 July for projects that will start within a year from the following 1 September
ESPID (European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases) ESPID Funding Scheme For Post Graduate Teaching Visits To Resource-Poor Countries Support is offered for transport costs only. It is expected that the visitor and/or his/her employee should provide their time gratis and that the hosts will cover accommodation and subsistence costs of the visitor during the visit. A typical award will be for approx Euro 1,000-1,500 (e.g. for a standard class intercontinental flight and related ground transportation costs) Application deadlines are every 3 months (1st Mar, 1st June, 1st Sept and 1st Dec) and should be made at least 2 months before the proposed date(s) of the visit.
Genetics Society (The) Junior Scientists Conference Grant

ECR travel to attend any genetics meeting 

Grants up to £150 are available for travel and essential overnight accommodation to attend any of the Genetics Society’s bi-annual meetings and those of Sectional Interest Groups.  Grants of up to £750  are available to attend conferences in the area of Genetics other than Genetics Society or Sectional Interest meetings.

British Infection Association BIA Travel Awards

Travel to any major meeting

Up to £1000 in arrears with receipts. Must be claimed within 1 year. Supports travel, but accommodation and registration costs may also be included. These awards support travel to major national or international meetings, in particular, ASM, ICAAC, IDSA, and ECCMID to present original research, where the abstract is already accepted.

 31 March, 30 June, 27 October.
Microbiology Society Research Visits Grant Awards of up to £3000 are available for making research visits of up to 3 month's duration (minimum length 4 weeks). Funds may be used to contribute to travel, accommodation and subsistence costs in making the visit, or towards the costs of project consumables. 01 April and 01 Oct

Microbiology Society

International Development Fund Up to £5,000 to contribute to the expenses of the proposed activity. Support (travel and accommodation) for visits by members of the Society to laboratories in countries where microbiology is inadequately developed.  The purpose of the visits must be to give short lecture courses and laboratory training in subjects designed to meet the needs of these countries. Purchase of consumables or small pieces of equipment, which are essential for the needs of such training courses.  01 April and 01 Oct
Genetics Society (The) Heredity Fieldwork Grant Grants of up to £1,500 to cover travel and accommodation costs. The scheme is not intended to cover the costs of fieldworkers other than the applicant, to cover the costs of salaries for those engaged in fieldwork, or to fund attendance at conferences.  However, equipment necessary for carrying out fieldwork may be covered (within reason). 5 January, 1 April, 1 July, 1 October

Seed funding research Projects

Small pump priming grants  to support research work design to produce pilot data for further external funding. Awards of up to €10,000. Grants will provide for purchase of laboratory consumables or small amounts of administrative time or other technical or IT support. It is not envisaged that the awards will fund the salary of the applicant.

ESPID (European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases) ESPID General Travel Award

Travel to any paediatric meeting.

Maximum awards including airfares, registration and accommodation are:

EUR 1,000 for travel from Europe to USA / Americas / Australasia
EUR 600 for travel within Europe
EUR 200 for travel within the applicant’s own country

Applications should be submitted at least 2 months before the start of the meeting being applied for.
Society for Applied Microbiology SfAM Laboratory Fellowships

Lab visit/travel costs 

A maximum of £1000 per week for up to a 4 week visit.

The maximum amount of a Meeting Grant is 15,000€. A minimum of 60% of total grant value of the Meeting Organizer Grant is to be used to support the attendance of Early Career Scientists.

ESPID Training Course and Workshop Award Scheme

1000-12,000 euros depending on delegates numbers and hours. SPID is only willing to part fund (up to a maximum of 50%) of the overall costs of courses.

Collaborative Research Meeting Award

To hold a small research meeting

A typical award will be for €2,000 to €5,000 (approx. £1,360 to £4,000) for a 1 day meeting +/- 1 night for 5-10 delegates with larger awards only for meetings of an unusually large or complex nature.
