Online Summer School: Computational Microbiology for Infectious Diseases
The Online Summer School in Computational Microbiology for Infectious Diseases provides an introduction to state-of-the-art computational approaches in microbiology, with a focus on infectious disease research.
Dates: 6-11th September 2027
Starting at the population level, participants will learn about tracking pathogen evolution and phylogenetics, as well as microbiome community analysis. The course will then move to the molecular scale, covering multi-omics approaches, from genomics and transcriptomics to proteomics, and their integration through advanced computational methods, including machine learning. The programme concludes with an introduction to mathematical modelling of infectious disease dynamics and its application to evidence-based public health policy.
Information
Topics covered:
Phylogenetics
Statistical genomics
Functional genomics
Omics integration
Microbial communities
Machine Learning for Infectious Diseases
Modelling for policy
Each day, the programme will comprise two thematic area blocks (2.5 hours each) – covering foundations, all the way through to analysis pipelines, and use-case examples. Each day there will also be a keynote lecture. Expected schedule is from 9:00 to 16:30 BST.
Participants are required to have basic knowledge of molecular biology. Previous programming experience is not expected. The programme is open to all, including international people external to the University of Cambridge.
Further information on course fees will be published soon.
