An Interdisciplinary Research Centre at the University of Cambridge

Research Interests:
Most of my work is devoted to genomically characterising Salmonella Paratyphi A with a particular focus on AMR, virulence factors, phylogeny and global distribution of the pathogen. I am also interested in azithromycin resistance within S. Paratyphi A with a focus on the increase of resistance in low-mid-income countries.

Although S. Paratyphi A is the main focus of my research, I am also interested in studying the human gut microbiome.

Key Projects, Countries, and Partners:
Most of my projects are directly connected to South and Southeast Asia. For
this we collaborate with:

  • Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Dept. Medical Microbiology, Chandigarh, India
  • Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU), Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
  • Department of Microbiology, Toprani Advanced Lab Systems, Vadodara, Gujarat, India

Moreover, I also work on other in-country projects with PHE -  Addenbrookes Hospital (Small Bowel Transplant research) and the University of Sheffield - Professor Tom Darton (Typhoid fever in Zimbabwe).
