Creating and sharing knowledge to prevent, manage and treat infectious diseases worldwide
As highlighted by the current pandemic, infectious diseases are a leading cause of mortality worldwide and a major threat to our food supply and natural resources. The emergence of new pathogens is particularly problematic. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 14 million people globally die each year from infectious diseases (i.e. one-fourth of total annual deaths). As one of the World’s leading Universities, The University of Cambridge, its partner institutes, and industrial collaborators are already known for academic excellence in infectious disease research and related fields, particularly in Medicine and Chemistry, where screening of large chemical libraries is leading to new developments in antimicrobial therapies.
