I am also a Fellow of Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, UK, where I have held part-time roles as Tutor, Assistant Graduate Tutor, Director of Studies for Preclinical Veterinary Medicine, and Newton Trust time-limited Teaching Fellow & Supervisor between 2011 and 2016.
Research Interests
My research interests are the epidemiology, evolution and genomics of viruses, particularly highly diverse human, animal and zoonotic RNA viruses. They also include host-virus-interaction, such as the dynamics of viruses and immune responses within and between hosts. I currently focus on the molecular epidemiology, modelling and design of vaccine antigens for Viral Haemorrhagic Fever viruses. Previous work covered Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1, Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus, human and animal influenza viruses, including pandemic H1N1 and H5N1/Asia, Xenotropic Murine Leukemia Virus, Epstein-Barr virus and Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disesase Virus.
In addition, I am enthusiastic about science communication, e.g. regularly volunteer at the Cambridge Science Festival and have written articles for a wider microbiological audience as well as blog posts.
